France's Plan to Recognize Palestine Met with Opposition from US and Israel

"French President Emmanuel Macron formally declared that France will become the first major Western power to recognize an independent State of Palestine. This announcement was subsequently dismissed by U.S. President Donald Trump and met with criticism from the Israeli government."

On July 24, 2025, President Emmanuel Macron announced that France will formally recognize the State of Palestine. He further stated, "I will make this solemn declaration before the United Nations General Assembly this coming September."

The following is an excerpt from an X post:

Donald Trump, speaking in an interview outside the White House today (July 25), remarked on President Macron's announcement, stating, "The positive aspect is that his statements hold no significance. They carry no authoritative weight."

In response to President Macron’s declaration, Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, expressed strong condemnation, asserting, "We unequivocally denounce President Macron’s decision to recognize a Palestinian state adjacent to Tel Aviv." He further cautioned that such a measure would serve to reward terrorism and risk establishing another Iranian proxy, similar to the situation in Gaza.

An additional X post conveys the position of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who declared, "The United States firmly rejects President Macron’s proposal to recognize a Palestinian state at the forthcoming UN General Assembly."
